Softphone

A softphone is a software program used for making telephone calls over the Internet using a general purpose computer, rather than using dedicated hardware. Often a softphone is designed to behave like a traditional telephone, sometimes appearing as an image of a phone, with a display panel and buttons with which the user can interact. A softphone is usually used with a headset connected to the sound card of the PC, or with a USB phone. The most popular softphone is X lite, and is offered as a free download from Counterpath Corporation.

grnVoIP does not provide its own softphone. However, grnVoIP customers can originate calls using any SIP compatible softphone. We also support the Internet codecs that are used by most softphones including iLBC and Speex. Just ask!

The SIP Reseller platform is also compatible with softphones, and can be used to sell VoIP service to your softphone users. If you need instructions to use a softphone with your account, please open a ticket from the Support page.
